South Africa

"A World in One Country" is what some might use to describe South Africa.  At the southernmost tip of Africa lies a destination like no other.  It is a land of unmatched contrast and unequaled beauty.  Here you'll mix with a cultural mosaic of proud people who'll collectively welcome you with a warmth that matches the enviable climate of this sunny land.  This is South Africa!

Cape Town is the most beautiful city in the world....Nestled under Table Mountain is the city of Cape Town with broad boulevards, bustling markets and the now famous Victoria & Alfred Waterfront next to the Harbor.  Cape Town is situated between the Indian Ocean and The Atlantic Ocean and therefore offers some of the most magnificent peninsulas and beaches in the world.  Experience the famous and magnificent wine route region which is only a 40 minute drive from the heart of Cape Town.

Cape Town offers a wide range of accommodations in a variety of settings.  Some of our favorites include:

  • The Ellerman House on the cliffs of Bantry Bay or The Bay Hotel in camps bay which both offer superb views of The Atlantic Ocean.
  • The Cellars Hohenort Hotel in the magnificent suburb of Constantia.
  • The Table Bay Hotel & The Cape Grace Hotel in the bustling and now famous Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.

We also have a wide variety of lovely Bed & Breakfast retreats and smaller boutique hotels in Cape Town and the Wine Route Region.

We recommend a variety of accommodations either in Knysna, Plettenberg Bay or Tsitsikamma National Park.  The Garden Route truly offers some of the most beautiful and unspoilt beaches in the world, forest, lakes, lagoons and wonderful hiking!

There are quite a few Safari parks in South Africa but we will only briefly touch on The Kruger National Park and neighboring Sabi Sand Reserve.  Please call us for more information regarding Gemsbok National Park and others.

The Kruger National Park is one of the best game parks in Africa with a large number of amphibians, birds, reptiles and 147 mammals species including the "big five".  Being a government run national park, the accommodations are simple and game viewing is controlled by staying on roads and in closed vehicles.  The park now runs game drives at night in an open bus and has allowed certain tour operators to operate game drives in open vehicles.  The park runs various walking trails which are very difficult to get reservations - book well in advance.

Sabi Sand Reserve borders the Kruger National Park on the mid west border.  Offers a far more luxurious and in depth safari than the Kruger National Park.  Game viewing is conducted in open land rovers & on foot with experienced game rangers and trackers.

Some of our favorite camps included:

  • Mala Mala
  • Singita
  • Leopard Hills
  • Londolozi
And in other neighboring private reserves:
  • Kings Camp
  • Ngala
  • Royal Malewane

  • Pretoria to Cape Town and visa versa
  • Pretoria to Victoria Falls and visa versa
  • Cape Town - Garden Route and visa versa
  • Pretoria to the Kruger National Park and visa versa
  • Pretoria to Dar es Salaam and visa versa

Sun City - The Lost City and Palace Hotel

Incredible resort and in the middle of nowhere but only a 2 hour drive from Johannesburg.  If you are looking for some R & R, love to golf or gamble OR are interested in incredible architecture and decor - then it is the place for you...

South Africa lies south of the Equator and therefore its' season are in reverse to our Northern Hemisphere.  It has 2 climate regions;

  • The Cape Province and Garden Route
Mid-winter occurs June - July with average daily temperatures ranging from 35° to 70°
Mid-Summer occurs December - January with average daily temperatures from 60° to 85°
  • All other regions of the Country
Mid winter occurs June-July with average daily temperatures of 60° to 78°
Mid-Summer occurs December - January with average daily temperatures of 70° to 85°

**The Northern region, Kruger National Park and Natal Coast will have higher temperatures**

Depending on your interests, we will guide you specifically.  For example, the best time to go on Safari is June through August but the best time to experience The Cape and Garden Route is October through April.  We always recommend avoiding their summer school holidays which typically occur December 10-January 10 as there is overcrowding of the parks and beach regions.

Of course, there is so much more to South Africa that we have not touched such as the Drakensberg Mountains, Hermanus, Soweto, Northern Natal Coast Including Rocktail Bay and Ndumo Safari Lodge.  Please call us for more information or expert advice and travel planning in this country.
